Faqs

Do all bridles fit the same?

No. Bridles from different manufacturers can fit very differently, and your horse’s individual conformation plays a major role in comfort and fit. One brand or style may suit your horse better than another.

What sizes do bridles come in?

Most bridles are available in four standard sizes: pony, cob, full, and oversize.

How can I estimate my horse’s bridle size?

A good starting point is your horse’s halter size.

  • If your horse wears a full/regular halter, he will most likely fit a full bridle.
  • This method is an estimate and may vary by brand.
Can I try a bridle before buying one?

Yes. Borrowing a bridle to test fit is often helpful. If a borrowed bridle is too large even when adjusted, choose the next size down. Fit and adjust it properly before deciding.

What parts of the bridle should I measure?

Crownpiece: Measure from one corner of the mouth, over the poll, to the other corner of the mouth.

Browband: Measure from the back edge of one ear, across the forehead, to the back edge of the other ear.

Noseband: Measure around the muzzle about one inch below the cheekbones.

Throatlatch: Measure from behind one ear, under the throat, to behind the other ear.

Do bridles come with reins?

Most bridles include matching reins. Additional reins are sold separately in various widths and styles, including:

  • Laced reins
  • Plain reins
  • Web reins
  • Rubber reins
Do some brands run larger or smaller than others?

Yes. Many German and French manufacturers produce roomier bridles. If your horse is on the smaller end of full size, a cob may work better. If your horse is between full and oversize, a full size from these brands often fits well.
